Internship: Towards a smart meter device implementation for irrigating farmers

This internship is part of the project “BEHAVE: Behavioral analysis and Economic experiments for agri-environmental policy evaluation”, financed by the Pays de Loire region within the framework of the “Etoiles Montantes” program.

The BEHAVE project aims to mobilize behavioral approaches and experimental economics for the design of innovative agri-environmental policies for the agro-ecological transition. It is particularly interested in changes in water use behavior for irrigation in agriculture. A device including real-time flow sensors, a smart meter, a calculation of the eco-efficiency of irrigators and a mobile application is studied. It is already tested by the company Aquasys in the framework of the RSEAU project on several irrigators in the Pays de Loire region. This device would allow rewards to be given to farmers who have acted to preserve water resources. Within the framework of the BEHAVE project, we will analyze, through a choice experiment, the acceptability of such a device by farmers. The surveys will be conducted in the Aubance and Authion river basins in the Pays de Loire (49). This is a prerequisite to consider the deployment of the system on a large scale.
