In order to provide an order of magnitude for France, we propose a brief synthesis of existing studies on the monetary valuation of environmental damage generated by agriculture. We consider water pollution, air pollution, emissions of greenhouse gases, soil pollution, the impact on human health and impacts on biodiversity and landscapes. After having homogenized and selected the most relevant monetary estimates, we arrive at a range of 15 to 64 billion euros per year. Those figures are not negligible compared to agricultural production which is of the order of 68 billion euros and the subsidies to agriculture and agricultural products which amount to 11 billion euros.
