Research Engineer – Experimental evaluation of agri-environmental programmes

The Green Pact has ambitious objectives for European agriculture, particularly in terms of agro-ecological transition. To achieve them, we need policies that are ambitious, effective and legitimate in the eyes of European taxpayers. This requires innovation, particularly in the incentive mechanisms of these programmes, and the design of schemes that farmers can take ownership of.

This is the ambition of the BEHAVE project, which uses behavioural approaches and economic experiments to evaluate agri-environmental programmes aimed at reducing the use of pesticides and irrigation water.

The project is funded by the Pays de Loire region under the ‘Etoile montante’ scheme, and coordinated by Marianne Lefebvre, a senior lecturer in economics.

The work to be carried out in 2024 will focus in particular on the acceptability to farmers, irrigators and local authorities of reusing wastewater for irrigation. This work will be carried out in partnership with the Pays de Loire Chamber of Agriculture and Véolia. Other work on the acceptability and impact of Decision Support Tools for the agro-ecological transition may also be carried out.
