THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION!

Thank you for your participation in the 11th FAERE Annual Conference!

The conference was organised by the BETA (Bureau d’Economie Théorique et Appliquée). The event was organised with the support of EAERE. Many thanks to the organisers!

The 11th FAERE Annual Conference, a key French event for the environmental economics community, took place over two days, with a number of scientific exchanges (opening conference, parallel sessions, round table) and a number of social events. Around 150 Professors, lecturers, researchers, post-doctoral researchers and PhD students attended.

Professor Susan Chilton of Newcastle University Business School opened the event with a keynote address on "Environmental Valuation: A Methodological Retrospective and a Look to the Future". Her academic research focuses on applied welfare economics, emphasising the use of surveys and experimental situations to understand how individuals make decisions that affect their economic well-being.

The first day of the conference also featured a roundtable discussion chaired by science journalist Valery Dubois, with participants including Julien Hardelin (Head of the Biodiversity and Resources Office, General Commission for Sustainable Development), Harold Levrel (Professor, AgroParisTech, CIRED) and Julie Subervie (Research Director, INRAE, CEE-M). A surprise guest from FAERE, Laurence Tubiana (présidente-directrice générale de la Fondation européenne pour le climat), joined the panel to discuss "Public policies and economic and regulatory instruments for the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services".

Tubiana

Congratulations to Laurence Tubiana!

Congratulations to Laurence Tubiana, CEO of the European Climate Foundation, who became an honorary member of FAERE. She is a prominent figure in the field of environment and sustainable development, renowned for her commitment and expertise in international climate negotiations. As co-chair of the Governance Committee of the Citizens’ Convention, she played a key role in promoting citizen engagement in environmental policy. She also served as an ambassador in charge of climate change negotiations, where she worked to advance global climate discussions.

Her role as the special representative for COP 21 and architect of the Paris Agreement was particularly notable, where she helped shape international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Her ability to advise senior levels of government was also highlighted when she served as the chief environmental advisor to the Prime Minister.

Ms. Tubiana has enriched the academic world with her knowledge in economics and international relations, teaching at Sciences Po Paris and Columbia University in New York. She is also the founder and was the director of the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), enhancing her reputation as a leader in sustainable development research and policy. She also led the Chair of Sustainable Development at Sciences Po, reinforcing her commitment to education and innovation in environmental policy.

FAERE played an active role at this year’s EAERE 2024 annual conference!

FAERE played an active role at this year’s EAERE annual conference in Leuven, highlighting the importance of French research in the field of environmental economics at the European level. A highlight of the event was the wonderful keynote speech by Mireille Chiroleu-Assouline from the Paris School of Economics and former President of FAERE on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, on "Environmental Political Economy: Private Interests and the Public Good". Her contribution not only enriched the academic debates but also raised the visibility of French research in our discussions on global environmental and climate emergencies. See pictures

It was also the occasion to officially announce the appointment of the new FAERE representative to EAERE, Raja Chakir, Research Director at INRAE within PSAE (Paris Saclay Applied Economics). Raja Chakir will lead an important project in collaboration with representatives of the Italian, Spanish and Portuguese Associations, under the auspices of the current EAERE President: the creation of MEDAERE (Mediterranean Association of Environmental and Resource Economists). See the accompanying photo of Raja Chakir with Serge Garcia, President of FAERE. We would like to thank Mari-Hélène Hubert (CREM), the former FAERE representative to EAERE, for her great work in this position.Last but not least, the famous pot de l'amitié organised by FAERE for its members and special guests of the President was a great success. Nearly 50 people attended this now traditional gathering at the Café Allee, making it a memorable event.

Submit your working paper now at !

In order to disseminate the work of the French or French speaking environmental economists, the FAERE has created two series of working papers. The Working Papers Series gathers academic papers. They are referenced in both EconPapers and RePEc. The Policy Papers Series is intended for a larger audience and often deals with the design and evaluation of environmental public policies.

The Editorial Board; led by Hubert Stahn provides a benevolent refereeing before publication on the FAERE website. They are also referenced in
FAERE website. They are also referenced in EconPapers and IDEAS/RePEc. An open and anonymous report is sent to the authors within a fairly short time. The publication of each FAERE working paper is also announced on Twitter @FAERE_Press.
